Number Snap

This is a classic game for young children, requiring fast reflexes and the
ability to match amounts and symbols. At first I thought this particular set
was spoiled because it had the number words on the back, but when the
children played with them I found that this encouraged word recognition
and quick thinking and even added to the fun. This pack was looking a
bit battered after some energetic games.

Pass the Bag

This was the most popular game with my group of children. It is a mix of lotto and lucky dip and requires each child, in turn, to take a plastic shape from a bag and match it to the picture on their baseboard. A net insert in the semi-transparent bag allows the child to realise where the shape they want is lying, and encourages recognition of the properties of shape by touch. This game is great fun and once it had been played several times with an adult supporting, the children could play it by themselves and even explain it to other children who joined the group.
