Booktrust Early Years Awards 2007 'Tucking In’ illustrated by Jess Stockham has won the 2007 Baby Book Award. ‘Looking Good’, from the same series was also short-listed for the award. Anna Wadham was short-listed in the Best Emerging Illustrator Award for ‘Ant and the Big Bad Bully Goat’ by Andrew Fusek Peters. Booktrust states that ‘The books all exemplify the remarkable creativity in words, design and illustration necessary to encourage young children into reading.’

What the testers thought: These sturdy, wipe-clean books with bright clear pictures were felt to be a lovely addition to all childcare settings and a good starting point for stimulating discussions. Children enjoyed lifting the large flaps themselves and responded with smiles and laughter. “These books support the Birth to Three framework in all areas but they are outstanding in supporting A Healthy Child”, said one tester. 		What the testers thought: Children enjoyed sharing the books, with the older children able to insert the pieces themselves. Good quality and value for money, these can be used to encouragecooperative and imaginative play. The books support hand/eye coordination and are presented in a fun way.

What I Like!

What the testers thought:
A delight to read, the adults enjoyed the poems almost as much as the children! There were a variety of poems, and the children were able to link some of them to their own experiences. They started joining in with the reading and enjoyed ‘filling in' the rhyming words. Excellent value for money, although it's best enjoyed by children at the top end of the age range due to the vocabulary used.

What the testers thought:
The use of the popular fairy stories in these books made lots of opportunities for the children to join in. Testers found that the bright colours and illustrations appealed to all children. In smaller groups the children stayed focused and really enjoyed the stories.

What the testers thought:
These books were very popular with the children.They were bright, colourful and just the right size.The younger children especially enjoyed them. The topics covered were wide-ranging and useful and encouraged discussion and fine motor skills even amongst children who would not normally get involved.
